About The Author
Richard Calhoun is a leading innovator in providing leadership skills to organizations. He has more than 30 years’ experience in corporate America and the public education arena, where he has used the management recognition tools in his publication “The Dynamic Principal” to successfully motivate employees. He was employed in management at State Farm Insurance and was also a Subway franchisee. He taught in the Dallas Independent School District, Lancaster Independent School District, and the Red Oak Independent School District.
He graduated from Austin College with a B.A. in Communications Arts, where he developed his communication and leadership skills. Mr. Calhoun also obtained certifications in Special Education 6-12, Special Education EC-12 and Speech Communications 6-12.
State Farm Insurance promoted Calhoun into its management training program at its corporate headquarters in Bloomington, Illinois, where he researched and helped analyze and develop systems and procedures that impacted regional offices across the country. It is at State Farm where he began to cultivate the ideas related to employee recognition. After being promoted into regional management, he applied the recognition tools with great success daily to the employees he managed. His employees flourished with increased production and several promotions.
He has been an innovator and leader in the classroom during his more than 16 years of education experience molding students and providing insight to leaders, including principals. He has also attended and lectured at various leadership conferences, including District-wide Staff Development meetings, Learning Disabilities Association of Texas Conferences, and Texas Alliances of Black Educators Conference. During his professional career, he has always created innovative means and techniques to motivate employees he managed and students he taught.
